SCI 220: Introduction to Sustainability

Class Program
Credits 3

In this one-semester survey course, we consider challenges in waste generation, food availability, climate change, water availability, urban development, and more. We’ll tackle these topics with a sustainability lens, which means that we’ll consider how to meet the needs of today without compromising the needs of the future, and we’ll focus on human, cultural, environmental, and economic perspectives. This is an active and hands-on learning science course with very little time spent in a traditional lecture classroom. We’ll grow food from seed, make maple syrup fro campus trees, speak with local sustainability-oriented businesses and professionals, and more.
