LAW 266: Substantive Criminal Law

A study in substantive legal principles underlying the prohibition and punishment of behavior that society has deemed dangerous or undesirable. Particular topics covered include: characterization of crime versus other violations of law, the elements of criminal responsibility, specific offenses and defenses, socio-cultural and historical justifications for criminal law, and judicial interpretation of criminal laws. This is not a criminal procedure course; thus the rights of the accused are not addressed. Students with credit for CRM 266 cannot earn credit for LAW 266.
