Mathematics/Childhood Education (B.S.)


This program leads to certification to teach grades 1-6 in the public schools. Students entering the program will graduate after four years with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics/Childhood Education.

Total Mathematics credits for Childhood Education: 33


Total Professional courses: 39 Credits


Required Supporting Courses (Liberal Arts)


Select one cross-cultural history [HST] courses (XC)(H/A): 3 Credits


One semester of a language other than English (H-L): 3 Credits


Total Supporting Liberal Arts: 24 Credits

Optional Middle Childhood Certification


Students desiring Middle Childhood (Specialist) Certification with a Mathematics major must complete the BS degree in Mathematics/Childhood shown above by replacing the above “Mathematics Courses” with those listed below. Those seeking Middle Childhood Education will also complete additional Education courses as indicated below:

The following is a general schedule for the Mathematics/Childhood Education major. Check all course descriptions for prerequisites before planning your course schedule. Other course sequences are possible. Consult your advisor or the Mathematics or Education Program Coordinator. Note also that one can introduce flexibility into this recommended sequence by shifting requirement slots around
to allow one to pursue other courses of personal interest or compensate for scheduling conflicts. A student interested in also completing the Middle Childhood certification should consult with her advisor and the faculty in the intended area of focus about a possible sequence of courses.
