(including Physician, Veterinarian, Dentist, and Physician Assistant)
Sage offers excellent preparation in Premedical Studies to students planning careers in one of the medical professions. Sage graduates have been successful in gaining admission to a variety of American medical colleges, including SUNY Upstate-Syracuse, University of Buffalo, and The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine; physician assistant schools including George Washington University and Albany Medical College; and veterinary schools including Cornell University and Iowa State.
Majors in Biology, Biochemistry, and Chemistry provide particularly strong backgrounds for students entering medical professions. Programs in the liberal arts and humanities are also suitable for pre-medical students, as long as certain science requirements are satisfied. Most medical schools require one year each of general chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology, general physics, and, in many cases, calculus. These course requirements also prepare students for the national MCAT exam or GRE exam. Sage has articulation agreements with the Albany Medical College MD program and Physician Assistant Program (Biology majors only) for highly qualified students.
The college has faculty who are pre-medical advisors to assist students in planning their undergraduate programs and developing their career aspirations. The advisors also assist pre-medical students with the preparation of application materials for medical school admission.
