2009-2010 Catalog
BUSINESS
Russell Sage College offers a four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Organizational Management. Students may also choose to enroll in our accelerated MBA program reducing the amount of time it takes to complete a graduate program.
In addition, the program provides an opportunity for non-business majors to choose from three minors: Business (described below), Organizations and Social Responsibility, and Entrepreneurship, both described in the Additional Minors section of the RSC Catalog. The Business minor is for those students who desire core business courses to enhance their undergraduate degree. This would be the minor if you are considering entering a MBA program. The Organizations and Social Responsibility minor is for those students who desire to combine core business courses with a social science or ethics background--for working in a non-profit organization. The Entrepreneurship minor emphasizes innovation and entrepreneurship--starting your own business or capitalizing on an idea.
BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE
IN BUSINESS AND ORGANIZATIONAL MANAGEMENT
Do you care about the world? Do you want to do work that makes a difference? Imagine a major that prepares students for management in any type of organization! Imagine a Business major that synthesizes the study of management with social science and the liberal arts, that prepares students to become intellectually agile and able to think both creatively and critically. Better yet, imagine a major that teaches students how to balance issues of social responsibility with effective management skills. An undergraduate degree in Business and Organizational Management is a competitive business program branding the idea of Business PLUS. This is a value-added program with emphasis on LEADERSHIP, ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND INNOVATION and SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY. This program prepares students for the workplace of tomorrow, for management in organizations that are values-aware, concerned with community and environment, interested in innovation, change and entrepreneurship and conscious of contemporary social change trends.
Business and Organizational Management courses are designed to provide a variety of theories and applications for strategic decision-making. This curriculum gives the student the grounding she will need to understand the field of management. Because organizations have become increasingly aware of their social responsibilities, this program attends to those needs. Students learn to integrate analytical methods from accounting, economics, management, finance, marketing, research and entrepreneurship with critical perspectives provided by courses on ethics, social responsibility, organizational development, conflict management, diversity, innovative social policy, environment, and community. Additionally, the inclusion of technology in the study of business and organizational management is vital to student success in the global economy.
Students who major in Business and Organizational Management generally have strong aspirations to attain leadership positions, positions of authority and innovation, in business, government, or the non-profit sector. Organized around the theme of social responsibility, this program enhances these strengths and aspirations by creating leaders who are visionary, innovative, flexible, socially aware, and values conscious. Graduates may pursue careers in financial, business, information services industries as well as positions in government, social services, non-profit agencies, or social activism organizations. Graduates will also be well prepared to continue on in graduate programs in a wide range of fields including masters and doctoral work in Business Administration, Organizational Management, Public Administration, Health Services Administration, Policy Studies, Law, Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, and Women’s Studies.

Accelerated MBA Program
For students of Russell Sage College, there are policies that allow acceleration of the programs in Sage Graduate School.
Undergraduate students in good standing, with a GPA of 3.0, may take graduate courses for undergraduate credit, with advisor approval and permission of the Dean of Sage Graduate School.
Undergraduate students who are seniors and who have a GPA of 3.0 may take two graduate courses for graduate credit, with advisor approval and permission of the Dean of Sage Graduate School. These courses may satisfy undergraduate requirements, or if they are completed beyond the 120 credits required for the baccalaureate degree, may satisfy graduate requirements.
Undergraduate students hoping to enroll in graduate coursework should be aware of the restrictions on the policies that support acceleration. No undergraduate degree can be completed with fewer than 120 credits. The graduate degree must include a minimum of 30 credits beyond the 120 required for the baccalaureate degree. Students in undergraduate programs should seek advisement from their program advisor and from the graduate program to which they will apply, to ensure that the courses selected apply to the appropriate programs. An application to the accelerated MBA program must be completed.
The following classes (See Sage Graduate School catalog) can be used as substitutions for undergraduate courses and must be approved by your faculty advisor and the Dean of Sage Graduate School.
